Night Photography

At our first regular meeting on October 18, Alice Keeney was again our speaker and discussed the techniques involved in night photography prior to our workshop with her on October 25. Some advice includes the following:

1.  Use an ISO of 200 or less.

2.  Use a cable release or mirror-lock-up.

3.  Use manual focus.

4.  Use shutter speeds in the range of 2 to 1/30 s with f stops of f/5.6 to f/22.

5.  White balance: generally use auto-WB. Or perhaps tungsten if shooting in RAW.

6.  Late dusk is best time. Fewer larger areas of black, better color.

7.  Moon shots:

     (a)  Best times are 6 days surrounding full moon.

     (b)  May need exposure times of 5 min.
